Can you believe that I made this poncho more than a year ago and it is still unblogged?? Well, no more!
This is the April Rhodes Popover Poncho and my final contribution to the Watcha Wearin’ January blog tour.
This poncho has been hanging around my closet (see what I did there? har har) for far too long without making an appearance on this blog. It’s a cute, versatile piece from a good pattern that works really well for cool weather. I can even wear a heavy sweater underneath it and it’s great for winter weather also!
I made this pattern once before, and it’s a great instant-gratification sew. Very few seams, no fitting to speak of, and it goes together fast.
This is a faux-sherpa lined faux-suede that I picked up from a local online shop, Zoelee’s Fabrics. I wanted to maintain the Ugg-type sherpa look, so I sewed this poncho with exposed seams. On the pocket, rather than folding the edges under to finish them, I flipped the sherpa to the outside to highlight it. Same thing with the hem — rather than folding to the inside, I flipped the sherpa part to the outside for a nice contrast.
I really like the overall look. It’s a different look for me, but it’s fun to mix it up sometimes!
