Happy Monday everyone!
If we were having coffee today, I would have big, exciting news for you! No, I’m not pregnant (yeah, ALL done on that front!), but I gave my notice at my current firm last week and as of January 5, 2015, I will switch to a new job at a new firm!
Okay so that may not sound very exciting to some of you, but I am very excited about it. It’s a great opportunity for me from both a personal and professional standpoint. My new firm is smaller than my current one, which is really attractive to me, my office will be much closer to home, I’ll be practicing in a real growth area for litigation, and I’ll have real opportunities to build and grow my own business. I’ll be at my current firm through the end of the year, and then it’s on to new things!
If we were having coffee, I would tell you that informing your coworkers that you’re leaving a job, especially one you’ve been at for 10 years, is kind of like breaking up with a boyfriend. All my coworkers have actually been very supportive but I haven’t had a chance to have a sit-down yet with one attorney with whom I work very closely. That one’s going to be the hardest of all. Oy.
If we were having coffee today, I would tell you that I went on a bit of a shopping spree Friday afternoon. I’ve lost so much weight since Baby J was born that pretty much none of my clothes fit me anymore. I was down to a single pair of work pants that I bought about 5 years ago and were seriously out of style. And I really had no suit that fit. So, I took Friday afternoon and spent a bunch of money at the Banana Republic factory store, but I walked away with two suits, a bunch of pants, and almost enough options to get me through a weeklong trial, if necessary. I’ll hit up a couple of Black Friday sales and then I should be set.
I love to make my own clothes, but sometimes it’s just not possible. There are only so many hours in the day and there was no way I could make all the work clothes that I needed. I decided to pick my battles, so I bought the pants and suits and will focus my sewing energy on blouses and tops to go with them. The True Bias Sutton Blouse is tops on my list, along with the Sewaholic Belcarra.
If we were having coffee, I would tell you that we spent our weekend getting ready for Thanksgiving. We spent lots of time at the grocery store and menu planning. At least it beats the previous weekend when we spent the entire weekend inside nursing kids with the stomach flu. 😦
Wishing a very happy Thanksgiving to all those celebrating this week!
If we were having coffee, what would you tell me?
