Blog Tour, Sewing

ITS Love: Channeling Audrey

Those of you who follow indie designers may be aware that Kennis, the designer behind Itch to Stitch patterns, was the victim of burglary a few weeks ago and, in addition to the emotional toll of a crime, lost her computer, camera, and lot of other property.  The goal behind this ITS Love blog tour (I’m up today, obvs), is to encourage you all to go peruse her shop and check out her lovely, well-made patterns.  (And don’t forget to read all the way to the end for a huge giveaway!)

And to aid you in that endeavor, I sewed up the Hepburn Turtleneck, a fabulous fall and winter basic piece that I know will get a ton of wear.

I must admit that when I first signed up for this tour a few weeks ago, I had much grander plans that involved pretty much a whole outfit of relatively complicated pieces.  But then we tore out a bathroom and redecorated our kitchen, and yeah, life kind of got in the way.

And in a way I’m glad it did.  Otherwise I may never have gotten around to trying out this pattern, and work-appropriate tops are undoubtedly the biggest hole in my wardrobe.  The Hepburn Turtleneck is a great solution for me since it’s completely office appropriate, easy to layer, and sews up both really well and quickly.

My fabric is a lightweight rayon french terry that I picked up a while back for a pair of joggers but is much more appropriate as a top!  Kennis’ drafting is always top notch, so I sewed up a straight size 6 with no alterations whatsoever.  The pattern comes with long sleeves and 3/4 sleeves included.  I opted for the 3/4 sleeves because I think that they are easier to layer under cardigans and jackets, which is how I will typically wear this top.

Speaking of styling, one of the reasons I’ve been itching to get a turtleneck or two in my closet is because they are so easy to style.  For example, this turtleneck can be relatively casual paired with a chunky sweater and flats:

Or dressier for the office or even date night when I swap out the sweater and flats for a blazer and heels:

But either way, it will keep the cold air off my neck and chest (since I’ve gotten really wimpy since I moved from Iowa to Kansas), and the slim silhouette makes it really versatile!

And I promised a giveaway, didn’t I?  Read on for details and don’t forget to check out the Itch to Stitch store!  The Hvar Jacket and Brasov Wrap Top are on my sewing short list 🙂
