A Cozy Linden Sweatshirt

Before we take another look at one of my all-time favorite patterns (shameless Grainline fangirl here), I just wanted to let y’all know that I have more great tips over on the Sew the Show blog today!  Several of you have expressed interest in seeing how I do a forward sloping shoulder adjustment, which is one of my typical adjustments.  Well, I did a photo tutorial walking you through the whole process!  Find it here.

And now back to our regularly scheduled programming 🙂

The Linden Sweatshirt by Grainline Studios was almost immediately one of my favorite patterns and that hasn’t changed.  I did a full review of the Linden here, so I won’t go into all those details again.

Linden is simple and straightforward.  It goes together quickly and easily and has a great, comfortable fit.  It’s pretty much everything I want for a casual cool-weather pattern.  It’s also one of those patterns that is a great palate cleanser for me.  If I’m feeling overwhelmed or uninspired and I need a jump start for my sewjo, I know that I can cut and sew a Linden in one evening.  Having a brand new handmade top to wear in the morning is a great way to spark inspiration!

I actually found this gray quilted knit at Joann’s of all places.  I’ve always been a bit of a Debbie Downer when it comes to Joann’s, but I have to say that I have seen a marked improvement in their quality the last few times I was in there to pick up notions.  I still think their fabric is drastically overpriced (when it’s expected that you don’t buy anything without a 40% or 50% off coupon and Simplicity pattern are on a “permanent” 40% markdown, that’s a clue to me that stuff is overpriced), so don’t expect to see mountains of Joann’s fabric popping up on this blog, but it is nice to know that if I need something on short notice, the quality will be there.

There’s nothing particularly remarkable about this sweatshirt, except for how comfy it is!  Particularly as the weather is cooling down, it’s nice to have a few cozy sweatshirts I can reach for.  I expect this one will see lots of wear come winter!

  1. Hi Katie! I’m a KC girl myself, and I’ve been following your blog for a while. Guess what?! I was in Joann’s yesterday (on a total lark, and it took about 30 minutes for them to get to me to cut my fabric, another 20 minutes to check out), and just bought this very same fabric for a linden sweatshirt!! I might have to rethink that, because…what if we ran into each other?

  2. Your sweatshirt looks great. I love that you paired it with leggings that are a bit edgier. Makes it look put-together. I feel the same way about the chain fabric stores. I am glad they are there because there are times when I just need to get something right away to finish a project, but they are generally overpriced. And (at least the one I go to) it takes forever to check out!
