If we were having coffee today, I would tell you that this is a big Friday at our house — my first baby started kindergarten today! He is nervous but excited and I know that he will have a great year. His teacher is really sweet and seems like the perfect kindergarten teacher. He has about 10 boys in his class, so there should be lots of opportunities for new friends!
I can’t say it’s not a little bittersweet. It seems like yesterday that I was bringing my first tiny, beautiful baby home from the hospital. In reality it was over 6 years ago, and he has grown into such a cool kid.
Today will be filled with lots of school stuff. And since it’s Friday and I don’t have tons of time-sensitive stuff at work, I will probably try to go to school for pick up this afternoon and hear all about his first day!
If we were having coffee, I would tell you that even though it’s bittersweet, we’re very ready for school to start again. My kids are still quite small and very active and they thrive on the structure of school. They love having a schedule and getting to play with their friends and teachers. I know some families love having 10+ weeks off for summer break, but I honestly cannot fathom that at our house. Well, not in a good way at least. We’ve had 3 weeks with no school and now we’re ready to go back!
If we were having coffee today, I would tell you that I haven’t trained at all for the half marathon I’m scheduled to do in October :/ I guess that’s not entirely true. I did a few training runs in June, but I don’t think I’ve run in about two months. I just can’t get excited about it. So once again, I will muscle my way through this race and then know that I shouldn’t sign up for any more for the foreseeable future. My heart just isn’t in it.
If we were having coffee, I would tell you that my weekend task is teaching J to roller skate! His school does skate parties and the first one is next weekend. He has never been on roller skates before, so I figured his first time shouldn’t be with dozens of other kids and all the kids he’s just getting to know and make friends with. I happen to be a very good roller skater. Or at least I was 10 years ago! I distinctly remember teaching my brother to roller skate in the basement utility room of my parents’ house. It’s fun to think how things come full circle!
If we were having coffee, what would you tell me?
