Coffee Date Friday

Coffee Date {#58}

Creative Counselor: Let's have a coffee date

I’m sitting here having a cup of coffee as I wait for J and N’s last-day-of-school picnic (too bad it’s cold and rainy out — grrr), so I figured it was the perfect time for a coffee date!

If we were having coffee this morning, I would tell you all about my trial that just finished up last week.  It was a 2-week jury trial, and we got a verdict around 9:00pm on Friday evening.  The jury deliberated for almost 12 hours, and in the end, we got a pretty decent result.  I was on the defense side, and there was one really big claim against my client (big as in multi-millions in claimed damages, trebling and attorney’s fees), plus a couple of smaller claims.  We won on the big claim, but got hit on one of the smaller claims.  But, there are some pretty strong grounds to get some, if not all, of that verdict overturned either by the trial judge or on appeal, so we’re feeling pretty good.

If we were having coffee, I would also tell you that I saw things from the other side in this case that I have never seen before in my 10+ years of litigating.  And not good things, either.  They made this trial much more stressful than it needed to be.

If we were having coffee, I would tell you that I’m really looking forward to having some solid sewing time now that my trial is over!  My summer-sewing list is getting longer by the day, and I haven’t even started on my May Sew the Show outfit!  Luckily what I have planned are some fairly simple, quick sews.  Finding the opportunity to photograph my outfit will probably be the more challenging part of all this.

If we were having coffee, I would tell you that my darling baby girl turned 4 last week!  How on earth did that happen?!?  It seems like just yesterday that she was born. She has always been about the sweetest, most pleasant baby and child you’ll ever meet.  She’s a bit more dramatic now, of course, but you’d still be hard-pressed to find a more pleasant 4-year-old.

And if we were having coffee, I would tell you that J, my first baby, turns 6 tomorrow!  He is such a fun kid these days.  Always more dramatic and headstrong than his sister, of course — he is a firstborn after all.  But he has such interesting thoughts and is getting more independent all the time.  He’s the first one up in the morning and helps me make breakfast every day.  I love hanging out with this kid.

My mom and dad were here this weekend for a joint birthday celebration.  They really are the best of friends!

Best friends

If we were having coffee, I would tell you that I have been so tired this week, recovering from trial.  I billed an average of 13 hours per day during the two weeks of trial, worked full days on the weekend, and got an average of 4-5 hours of sleep per night.  We were running on adrenaline and it’s going to take a few weeks to fully recover from that.

If we were having coffee, what would you tell me?

  1. If we were having coffee, I’d tell you that I graduate college a couple weeks ago and it feels very strange. I’m still studying, as I have to pass my nursing boards next month. I am also excited to start sewing again. I have a long list as well for the summer!
